ANALYSIS OF WASTE AND SEWAGE SLUDGEIntroduction to waste analysis

Any human activity, understood as an urban, private or industrial activity, leads to the formation of waste material. Waste is a substance that, depending on the production cycle from which it originates, can take on different hazardous characteristics. For this reason, waste is treated as a highly polluting substance, whose production must be reduced to a minimum and for which specific disposal and recovery plants have been created.

European, national and regional legislation deals with the waste problem on a daily basis by issuing directives and regulations to make waste production and disposal processes effective.

ANALYSIS OF WASTE AND SEWAGE SLUDGESewage sludge in agriculture

Although in the legal framework sewage sludge is in all respects considered waste pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 152/06, Legislative Decree 99/92, as a special rule, integrates the management of sludge from purification defining, in art. 2, the application (waste water coming exclusively from civil settlements, waste water coming exclusively from civil and productive settlements, waste water coming exclusively from productive settlements).

Legislative Decree 99/92 defines the conditions for the use of sewage sludge in agriculture and above all identifies in the Annexes the limits to the concentrations of heavy metals and other specific pollutants in the soil after the application of the sludge.

At the regional level, the Administrations have, through the relevant offices, over the years introduced and improved specific indications for the use and control of sewage sludge in agriculture.

The Stante Chemical Laboratories offer both sampling and sludge analysis services, guaranteeing short and reliable timescales and accurate and reliable results.
